Technologies used for hair transplant continue to develop and advance, making the procedures less invasive and more successful. Despite the efficiency and effectiveness of hair transplants, both FUE hair transplant and FUT hair transplants are serious medical procedures. These are the most common procedures, but all variations of hair transplant surgery require a degree of anaesthesia to numb the area and protect the patient, thus they should be cared for in line with medical advice from professionals. Recommendations from doctors may vary depending on individual situations, but general guidelines will ensure the protection of new, implanted hair follicles and help to prevent infections whilst promoting successful regrowth.

One of the most important guidelines for after hair transplant is to avoid excessive activities. There are some activities, such as going to the gym, that should be avoided immediately after a hair transplant. For many, this might be a struggle. Our guide will help to inform prospective patients on the importance of staying out of the gym and provides a timeline that can be followed for exercise after hair transplant procedures.

1- 3 Days After Hair Transplant

Exercise after a hair transplant procedure should be avoided at this stage. If you opt for hair transplant in Turkey, the gyms and swimming facilities in the premium hotels might be appealing but should be firmly avoided. In fact, all exercise should be avoided wherever necessary. This includes working and unnecessary walking. This is an extremely sensitive time for the hair grafts, so we recommend avoiding any agitation to the area, including contact (other than by the doctor) and increasing the blood flow to the area, which can increase the risk of swelling.

Exercise after hair transplant procedures causes an increased risk of blood pressure complications. As heart rate increase from exercise, the grafts can become dislodged and affect both the donor area and the new implantations. Sweat can also cause irritation and swelling in the scalp or area of transplant.

At Longevita, we will reiterate the importance of rest immediately after a hair transplant. We will explain why exercise after a hair transplant procedure should be avoided and can make recommendations to help minimise activity on a case by case basis. Of course, we do not want to deter patients from the health benefits of exercise for any longer than is absolutely necessary, but a hair transplant is a serious procedure and should be treated with care. A patient’s overall health will benefit from sticking to these guidelines or those prescribed by their surgical team.

Please note, it is vital to avoid saunas, swimming pools, Jacuzzis and water in general, too.

4 – 29 Days After Hair Transplant

At this stage, exercise after a hair transplant procedure should still be limited. Patients can engage in non-strenuous or demanding activities. To help patients maintain their conditioning, we recommend yoga or Pilates. We do recommend that intense cardio and weight training are avoided but gentle walking is permitted.

Please note, that all activities should be gentle and avoid any irritation to the scalp. Exercise after hair transplant procedures, particularly FUT, should refrain from stretching the neck, which has a knock-on effect for the skin on the back of the scalp. This is because the scar here will still be healing and stitches can become dislodged and bleeding can occur. It is larger than the tiny incisions used to extract hair during FUE or DHI hair transplants.

1 Month After the Procedure

Cardio exercise and weight training can resume. Those who wish to can return to a gym environment. However, as above, if the patients have had FUT surgery, they should avoid exercises that stretch the back of the next for another 6-8 weeks.

Individual Exercise Plans After Hair Transplants
