After a hair transplant procedure, it is important to ensure that you are looking after your new hair as effectively as possible in order to guarantee strength. After your procedure with Longevita, you will be advised a full after-care programme in order to help reduce any post-operative swelling and ensure you are protected against any form of infection. Here, we’re taking a look at some of the top tips on how to take care of your hair after a transplant with Longevita.
Going On Holiday
Depending on your healing characteristics and size of the procedure you have carried out, we will advise you to take between 7-10 days off work, providing the perfect opportunity to go on holiday. However, there are a number of things to consider if you are heading on holiday for the time after your procedure in order to ensure your post-op scalp heals as it should. Firstly, you should avoid direct sunlight for 14 days following your procedure, which is why we cover the head after the procedure and encourage the use of hats or caps after the procedure in Turkey. In addition to this, it is important that you do not use a swimming pool for 14 days after the procedure as the chlorine content can be irritating for the scalp. Swimming in the sea should also be avoided due to the risk of bacteria and infection, although pure saline water can actually be beneficial, but is not required. It is also advised that alcohol is not consumed for 7 days after the procedure.
Washing Your Hair
After your procedure, you will have a check-up while you are still in Turkey, and will then be provided with pain killers, antibiotics, and a special shampoo and lotion which contains all organic ingredients and no chemicals. You will be advised to use this particular type of shampoo for at least 14 days after the procedure takes place. You are able to wash your hair the day after your hair transplant takes place and washing with warm water as normal is allowed. Once you have healed, you are able to go back to washing your hair with your regular shampoo as normal.
Depending on each patient’s needs, there are some opportunities to opt for alternative aftercare treatments such as saline solution if the patient’s skin is extremely sensitive, however this is not generally offered as part of the package. Avoiding itching is important, and saline will help to keep the area moist and provide a soothing solution to get rid of the itching. Scratching can also dislodge grafts which can result in bleeding and can remove some of the new hairs that have been implanted, so it is important to avoid this, and some alternative options may be more beneficial for the patient than the standard recommended products.
At Longevita, we offer a dedicated aftercare programme in order to ensure that you are healing as you should be post-procedure. We offer this service while you are in Turkey after the procedure takes place, and also once you return to your home country. We will request pictures which the surgeons will review in order to ensure that you are healing well, and these will be requested 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months after the procedure takes place, while making recommendations where required to ensure you obtain the best possible results.
Alongside our standard aftercare process, we will also offer the opportunity to follow up your procedure with GRP treatment in order to stimulate the scalp and further produce the best results possible to ensure you end up with strong, natural-looking hair. Our London office is open 6 days a week for appointments if you have any questions regarding your aftercare or the healing process in general after your procedure. Further to this, we also offer consultations by appointment in different cities across the UK, post-procedure so you can have a patient consultant look at the results of your transplant and recommend different aftercare techniques where relevant.
