Hair Transplant Pictures: Why You Need To Send Them & Best Way To Take Them

The hard part is over. You’ve had hair transplant surgery. But what many people forget about the hair transplant journey is its aftercare process. It plays a very crucial role in determining the overall success of your surgery.

Once you’ve had the surgery, you can’t expect things to quickly go back to normal. It’ll take some time and patience. And to make sure that everything’s going smoothly, you need to send us your hair transplant pictures.

You will experience significant changes in your recovery period. Of course, as the swelling goes down and the hair starts to grow back, you’ll notice that you look different. However, through your hair transplant pictures, we will make sure that it’s a “good different”.

The final results of your surgery will depend on the aftercare. The surgery essentially modifies the living tissue, so you can’t expect to come out of the operation theatre with everything done and dusted.

You need to take good care of yourself so that you can enjoy good results. For us, your hair transplant pictures are just one way to ensure that your recovery is moving on the right track. If we see that something is not right, we can intervene early on to help you.

For How Long Will I Send My Hair Transplant Pictures?

That comes down to the hair transplant healing time. Although there can be variations, it can take approximately 12-18 months for a patient to recover completely after the hair transplant surgery. The recovery timeline can also differ depending on the area of the transplantation and the number of grafts.

There are also some aftercare rules that you need to follow to get good results from the surgery. As you’ll follow the aftercare instructions, your surgeon will monitor your progress. Your hair transplant pictures will enable us to help you at the right time if we find that something’s not right.

You might think that it’s only the first few months that you’d have to be more careful, but that’s not the case. Certain habits can cause damage to your hair transplant results even later in the recovery timeline. So, that’s why we need you to send us your pictures throughout the whole process.

Of course, this is a part of Longevita’s 12-months aftercare services. Now, even if your recovery period lasts longer than 12 months, you have nothing to worry about. Even after 12 months have passed, we will be there to answer any questions that you have.

How to Make Sure That Everything’s Okay with My Recovery?

For this part, we kindly request you to submit your hair transplant pictures to us periodically. Our hair transplant doctors will review them so that they can keep a check on you even if you’re not available for an in-person check-up. It’s our responsibility to follow up on your recovery.

The medical team that performed your hair transplant will review the pictures. There are different stages of the recovery period, and our surgeons will advise you about what to do next after taking a look at your photos. This is only done to ensure a good recovery.

When Do I Need to Start Sending the Hair Transplant Pictures After the Surgery?

The first week after the surgery is quite important for your recovery. The surgical area is quite delicate at the time, and poor aftercare can end up ruining the results of the surgery. So, you need to be careful about the smallest details.

It’s after that that you have to start sending the different stages of hair growth pictures:

  • 1 week after the surgery – we’d like to see your pictures to make sure that your scars are healing nicely. When taking pictures, please be careful for us to examine your scalp better.
  • 3 months after surgery – your hair will start growing at this point, so we need to make sure that the transplanted hair is growing as well through your hair transplant pictures after 3 months. If your hair grafts have incurred damage due to an injury or something else, they might not grow hair at all. If anything happens to your grafts that “feels wrong”, immediately get in touch with us.
  • 6 months after the surgery – your hair density will have increased significantly at this point, and we expect 70% of your transplanted hair to have grown by then. If there is anything wrong with the recovery, you will be advised accordingly.
  • 12 months after the surgery – in most cases, this is the end of the recovery period. The hair will be grown, and the density will be full. However, if you need another session, we will inform you about it.
  • 18 months after surgery – the crown area has a lower blood circulation so hair growth in that area of the scalp might take longer. Therefore, we’d need hair transplant pictures of the crown around this time.

How You Should Take Your Hair Transplant Pictures

Taking pictures from a good angle is important, as low-quality pictures will keep the surgeons from examining your surgical areas. We need high-resolution pictures that vividly show the details so that our surgeon can clearly take a look at your scalp. Taking pictures the right way is important.

You won’t fly to Turkey after every major recovery stage for the surgeon to take a look. Of course, it might be inconvenient and expensive for you. This is why we request hair transplant post-op pictures from our patients.

We do not charge anything for the assessment our surgeons will provide based on your images. These are a few important pointers for you when you’re taking the picture or someone else who is taking them for you.

Use Natural Light

When taking pictures, make sure that there is proper lighting. Taking the picture in the daytime will produce the best image quality for our purposes. Make sure that you’re facing the source of the light. Do not stand in between the camera and the source of light. This is important for taking clear hair transplant pictures.

Don’t Move the Camera When Taking the Picture

Make sure that you don’t send any blurred images as we won’t be able to provide a correct analysis from them. The important details might get hidden due to the blurriness. The camera should be standing still. If you move the camera while taking a picture, the image will not be clear.

Ask Someone Else to Take the Pictures

If possible, try and get someone else to take pictures of those areas of your scalp that are not easily accessible to you. It would be the best way to capture good shots of your scalp.

The angles must include the front, top, crown area, sides, and donor area. It’s better if you take the pictures from the same angles in the same light that you had for your pre-op photos. That will allow us to easily compare the results and the difference in hair growth.
