More than 7 million men in the UK are losing their hair as we speak. Many of them are seeking hair restoration surgery either in the UK or abroad. With that in mind, we wanted to find out how prevalent baldness is in some cities in the UK and which city had the highest baldness percentage. So, we created a UK hair loss map.
And so, Longevita conducted a study to rank the baldest cities in the UK using a sample size of 5000 of its most recent patients. Analysis of the results shows that the highest baldness percentage is over 80%.
Looking at the data, it seems like Bristol’s down on luck, having ranked number one for the greatest baldness percentage, almost 81%, according to our study. Of the patients that Longevita treated from Bristol, 81% needed 3000 or more hair grafts, indicating extensive baldness.
A close second is Bradford. The Bradistans might not be that thrilled to know that the baldness percentage there is more than 75%. Liverpool ranks third and Cardiff ranks fifth, tailing Glasgow by only 0.3%, with the total baldness percentage at 73.3%.
Surprisingly, London’s way down on the list, ranking 18th, with only 56% of baldness among its people. The greatest number of patients came from London, 1450 out of 5000, that is. However, only 812 of those needed 3000 or more hair grafts for their restoration surgery.
Look closely, and you’ll notice that the baldness percentage, in general, is high in all of these cities in the UK. Peterborough ranks last, but it still has a baldness percentage of 48.8%.
Hair Transplant Treatment Plan at Longevita
To find out how bald you are, you can use our graft calculator. Hair grafts are not the same as hair follicles. A hair follicle is the hair root. A group of hair follicles together form a follicular unit or graft. Each graft can contain up to 4 hair follicles.
Surgeons at Longevita request pictures of the patients to find out how many grafts they would need according to the Norwood Scale. If you have hair loss in zone 1-7, Longevita’s graft calculator indicates extensive balding. In that case, you’ll need more than at least 3000 grafts to achieve partial coverage. You may also need more than 1 session to cover all your bald areas.

- Longevita wanted to find out the cities with the greatest baldness percentage in the UK. For that, we used internal data to analyse the postcodes of the most recent 5000 patients. This was done to sort them out and find out how many patients were treated in each city in the UK.
- After finding out the total number of people who had gotten hair transplants in each city, we found out the number of patients who had gotten more than 3000 grafts in their surgery representing the extensiveness of their baldness.
- We compared the number of patients who had more than 3000 grafts to the number of patients treated in that city and found out the baldness percentage in the city.
- Based on that, a list of the top 20 cities in the UK where the demand for hair transplant surgery was the greatest was compiled.
